Lesson 1: Race in Literature and Media
This lesson will be focusing on how the topic of race is portrayed. We are reading a novel that has a very strong opinion of racial segregation.
In literature, we are naturally expected to think about the assertions and claims made by the author--in this case, Harper Lee's beliefs about Race and Segregation. Because of this, I want to explore how else we are persuaded about race by the media. Check out the presentation below which will discuss several different types of media. There is an introduction to what To Kill a Mockingbird may assert about Race and Segregation before we dive into several other questions.
One last thing! Go to the bottom of this page and download the guided notes using the button. They will help you follow along in the lecture and prompt some thinking while we go over the presentation in class. Happy note taking!
